A Brewery Is Offering Parental Leave For Dog Owners And I Cheer For Them
The craft beer industry is all about firsts — the first collaboration between two line-worthy breweries, the first six-pack of pounder cans, the first IPA brewed with Brettanomyces. And now, the first brewery to offer parental leave…when an employee gets a new dog.
Ellon, Scotland-based BrewDog has introduced Puppy Parental Leave across its entire company, including its myriad bars dotting the globe and forthcoming sister brewery based in Columbus, Ohio.
Yes, having dogs in our offices makes everyone else more chilled and relaxed, but we know only too well that having a new arrival — whether a mewling pup or unsettled rescue dog — can be stressful for human and hound both,” the company writes on its blog. “So we are becoming the first in our industry to give our staff a working week’s leave on us to help settle a new furry family member into their home.”
I know what most people are gonna say. “Hey Chaps, you don’t need a week off from work for adopting a dog, you dick head. I mean fuck. How lazy and unmotivated can people be? A fucking week? Libtards.” And you might be right, but consider this; you are completely wrong.
This weekend I started fostering a dog. His name is Otto and I named him after the character on Alaska The Last Frontier. Otto is adorable, loving, and basically potty-trained already (shoutout to me). Otto is seemingly great but he is a HUGE distraction while I’m podcasting or writing or doing any number of things. You gotta keep an eye on a new family dog. They’ll fuck your shit up in a heartbeat. I’m far from the point where I trust Otto enough to be alone in the house all day by himself and he’d probably dig out from under the fence or something if I was gone for a long period of time and left him in the backyard. Kenneling is a good option but that can be stressful AF for a dog in a new area with a new home and new owners.
A week. Give the dog a week to adjust. Good on this brewery. Shit’s awesome. Beers and puppies, man. Beers and puppies. That’s the good life.
I’m gonna start giving some dog training tips on Zero Blog Thirty so if you have any questions you’d like us to go over, email me at chaps@barstoolsports.com
He’s a good boy.
